Taking Time For Your Spirit

Life can get really busy.  I find it a challenge to find time for my spiritual side.  It seems most of us barely have time to take a breath, never mind trying to fit in endless hours of devotion to spiritual practice.

Surprisingly, I have found that it does not take investing a large chunk of time because even a little goes a long way.  Snatching a little peace of mind to improve the spiritual part of you is better than the nothing a lot of people do.

Here are some ways I have found that allow me to take time for my spirit.  These are quick and easy and I hope one or more of these suggestions will help.

>>        Take 10 - that is take just 10 minutes each day to start.

In order to feel more connected with your spiritual side, you really do not need to take an hour a day to devote to spiritual activities.  Really, just the opposite is true.   Even just 10 minutes every day can inspire changes to your inner self that will spread to other areas of your life in a positive way.

Just try it for 10 minutes to start.  I like to start off my day with a short meditation.  You can do your particular practice any time of the day that is best for you.  Whenever you have a few quiet minutes for yourself you can read an inspirational book or listen to spirit lifting music or just sit quietly and enjoy  the peace.

Those 10 little minutes are enough time to calm your mind, let go of tension and reconnect with your spiritual self.  That would be the whole point of any spiritual practice.  It gets better.  If you do this on a regular basis, the benefits far outlast the 10 minutes you invested.

>>        Ways to bring spiritual aspects to all areas of your life.

Keeping the focus on your spiritual side during the day makes this technique even more effective.  If you set the intention to consider your daily activities in a spiritual light, the spiritual aspect can stay with you constantly.  Some of the ways I have tried are listed here.  Do be creative and use these as they are best suited to you and your own activities.

Try meditating during your workout.  Have you heard the phrase "walking meditation?"  This is meditation carried out while you exercise your body.  It involves being mindful and focusing on each step, listen to your muscles and tune into your breathing as you walk or workout.

This can be especially peaceful in a natural setting.  Taking a walk in the woods can tune you right into your spirituality.  Practice the walking meditation in your neighborhood park.  It can be a very uplifting experience.  You could also find that quiet corner of the park and do a little sitting meditation.

Even everyday chores can be turned into a meditation session.  I let my mind drift to spiritual matters while sweeping the floor.  This helps the chores go faster and helps me keep connected with my spirit.  The main goal is to slow down the chaotic mind and find that peaceful place in yourself.

This next part can be a little difficult at times.  Practice looking at others through your spiritual eyes and see the divine spark in each person.  The emotions you give out are the results you will get.

Keep a loving thought for each person you meet.  Picture the love you have spreading out from you and touching the other person in their spirit.  Focusing healing thoughts for someone having a hard day reflects the healing back toward your own heart.  I have had many a day when these thoughts were the only thing keeping me focused!

These are just a few of the things I use to keep my spirit nourished.  You know, you ARE your spirit and tuning into that part of you does not have to be hard.

Keep connected with some of these ideas and feel free to add your own.  I'd love to hear how you stay focused and take time for your spirit.
